I find myself fooling around on Car Gurus too often and usually find something interesting. Well, I've never had a 5 cylinder car before and they have my interest. I'm seeing a 2010 Golf 2.5 with only 41,610 miles and only one owner. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. This will be 'toy' car as I have a DD already. ( I know there are a lot more fun cars out there for 'toys' than a 14 year old Golf, but I'm past the midlife crisis age.) So if you are familiar with 2010 2.5s, let me know what you think. My impression so far is that the five cylinder is a fairly good engine. Current price is $9,990.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

A good friend just purchased a 2012 Golf 2.5. I test drove it with him and what a fun car, I had never driven a Golf before. The 2.5L is a very durable engine. My sister traded her 2013 Jetta 2.5L with close to 250k miles on it, and the drivetrain was perfect. Didn't leak or consume a drop of oil. Rust is what did the car in. Another family member had a 2010 Jetta he bought used that he sold with around the same mileage 250k or so.

It should be a reliable vehicle with consistent fluid changes.

We had a 2008 with the 2.5 and MT. It was a very practical and comfortable car. The engine is good, suitable power and torque, but you do pay a fuel economy penalty a bit.

We loved ours.

Manual shift or DSG? If DSG, that fluid should've been replaced at 40K miles; plan on it if no record of it being done.

Otherwise, the 2.5L is a solid motor indeed and makes a pretty nice racket when goosed. Even if low miles, the suspension is likely to need some refreshing, so look into some GTI "upgrades" that fit. It should be a fun car nonetheless, but methinks $10K is too high.

Good luck finding something similar in that price range these days...

Daughter had a 2008 Jetta Se. We purchased it in 2010 with 15k miles. She just gifted it to her SIL this year who just got her license with 188k on it. Build quality on SE trim was almost as nice as wife 2008 X3 at the time. S trim not as nice. Just did regular maintenance only things which went were the MAF and solenoid for fuel door.
