We have a new lube and fuel supplier, pricing for synthetic lubes are 1/3rd the cost of Mobil 0w40, curious what you dudes think. As the thread states, new 2010 Grand Cherokee srt8, cherry still intact.

, I looked up on my viscosity chart, at least my crude one the 0w30 mimics a 0w37@100c and the 0w40 a 0w48-49. The mobil came out 0w44, sounds right?

What do you think, would you substitute the mobil for either of these?

Thanks, and game on!!! Oh, filters in either case will be Donaldson, larger body if I can find it.

IIRC, the SRT-8 engine is not available from the factory with a block heater. Have you added an aftermarket device to pre-warm the oil? If so, I would use a 5W-40 oil. If not and you have very cold start conditions in central BC, then stick with the 0W-40. If you live in the Okanagan Valley or lower interior where the lowest it might go is -18C, then I'd also recommend a 5W-40. I still like the new Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic.

Esso XD-3 0W30 or 0W40 either should should work great and are usually priced better then Mobil 1 products in Canada. We have seen nothing but great UOA from these oils being used by or Canadian brothers in oil!

As to Mobil 1 0W40 I have no basis what so ever to actual recommend it in this application having not seen it in an SRT-8 yet. I would guess it would perform just fine if it does well in AMG 500+ HP engines and the Porsche line up!!! What that is just an educated guess I am not basing it on proven results in this application but I would not be one bit worried about it in this application if it was my Mother's Jeep etc......

Thanks for the info guys, to clarify a few things, the srt8 6.1L does have a block heater, the cord is bunched up right between the engine and the center of the firewall. I can get pretty much any 0w40 or 5w40, 5w50 to run, but I'd prefer to run what my commerical supplier has to offer, the price is great. We used to have Chevron for lubes, some Esso, I ran their lubes as long as it looked sufficient.

Doe either of these look up to the task, should I be concerned about cat fouling if I run the diesel 0w40?

as a 4 year SRT8 owner, here's my spin.

0w-40 is right on the cap. Works well almost anywhere. Doesn't have to be M1. TSB allows 15w-50 for oil squirter whine.

Your engine has oil squirters that fire the oil right up onto the undersides of the pistons. This heats the oil very quickly in cold weather. It also runs way higher oil temps if you whip it. These can make a whine when the oil is hot, sounds like a PS pump.

A remarkably tractable motor with a lot more than its advertised hp in ideal conditions.

Piston cooling is old tech. I had that on my old mid 80s 4cyl. diesel engines that were in Ford 2 ltr. engines.

Neato! Way to state the obvious. Duh.

You may want to look at what you typed.

"4cyl. diesel engines that were in Ford 2 ltr. engines." ???

Now show me an NA gasoline motor with them. Please?
