Not to start anything but read what this invader guy says and he has some kind of testing info.
I understand the desire to use a quality, yet inexpensive oil.
I suggest Mobil 1, 10W-40 Racing 4t. Available at WalMart. It is about the most robust and shear stable oil around. It is every bit as good and shear stable as the even more expensive Motul/Amsoil products.

CCS test and 40C start up flow test are important tools to know about
your oil because roughly 60% of total engine wear occurs during cold
start up conditions before oil can circulate through the engine...
At start up temp of 40C 212F 40 grades are ranked by their cSt flow
rates from the quickest 80 cSt to slowest 165 cSt...
1)0w40....80 cSt
2)5w40....90 cSt
3)10w40...110 cSt
4)15w40...118 cSt
5)Mono40..165 cSt
Once your oil reaches the operating temp of 100C 212F 40 grade cSt
flow rates are considered equal...
1)0w40....14.3 cSt
2)5w40....14.4 cSt
3)10w40...15.5 cSt
4)15w40...15.6 cSt
5)Mono40..15.8 cSt
So if your want the quickest moving oil during start up before warm up then its the 5W not 15W...

I am in Michigan so it would probably always be 60 degrees or at least 50. I am concerned about shear being as the oil is shared with the trans.Some info has said the 15w does not shear as bad.
So you would use the 5w?
All oils will show some degree of shear during their service but
Blackstone's used oil report data has affirmed there are no reason to
fear the shear because as our oil shears flow increases without the
dreaded increase in wear... our oil serves as a wall of protection only
when it is constantly FLOWING between moving parts...
I would go with the 5w40 if it were me. In fact I have used T6 5w40 in everything from thumpers like your 450 to a turbo hayabusa and most things in between. Mind you the formula has changed over the years so I’m not sure if it still applies.

YES!!! not only do I use a 5W in my homologated race bike I recommend 5W to all my customers with 100% confidence...
