Going back to TBN, I forgot to look at PQIA, so thanks for the reminder. The only other comment is regarding the method of testing. There are two TBN tests common to test labs, ASTM 2896 and ASTM 4739. ASTM 2896 will read about one unit higher than 4739 on the same sample. ASTM 4739 is often preferred for used oil, but labs can use either. The oil companies Data Sheet listings are almost always ASTM 2896. So, if one PQIA used 2896 and the used oil analysis lab used 4739, you can bump one up or one down to get a closer comparison of starting vs ending TBN.

Oh, and Dave, thanks for pointing out that little cost fact. When you consider a 7-7.5K run on an OC that cost $19... and a used oil analysis that good.... why it's enough to make a Scotsman jig for joy!

Jim your welcome. Now the problem is that I have used the last of the FS I have to look for another deal and stock up for the next two years.

Regarding deals, any quality conventional oil from brand name will suffice. I ran the Quaker State Conventional for $2/qrt, and got an excellent UOA at 7.5k miles, with TBN to spare (at 3.0 at the end of 7.5k miles!).

Recently, Peak has been on sale at $2/qrt with rebate, and as I recall Mobil Super was a smokin' deal at OR's just earlier this month. There is no shortage of conventional lubes that will well protect your truck for the full duration of warranty. You may have to wait a few months for a super-duper deal, but they come along often enough to stock for and ride the wave for a few years.

+1 - 122 quarts of Super acquired during this last sale @ $260 for the lot (which included filters). I will have to add about $15.00 to exchange all of the STP/Microgards for FL-820s filters, but still in all to buy 17 (7QT) OCs with MC filters for $275.00 is not too shabby. Watch the promo section...there is always something being posted there.

I would like that but COSTCO'S around hear do not carry 5W-20. And I prefer 5W-20 just a personal preference. I may have to use Mobil conventional but I will wait and see. Also a personal preference of not using XOM'S products but that is for another thread.

Thanks to all for your comments.
