- 2008 Toyota Rav4 Limited 4WD 2.4L
- About 30,000 miles a year (75% highway - 5% city - 20% hilly country/gravel backroads)
- Driven average, not easy but not driven hard
- Mainly cared for at Toyota dealer, so conventional 5W-20 and Toyota filter is what is in it now

I was thinking the new Castrol Edge 0W-20 with a Bosch Distance Plus Filter and 15,000 mile OCI. And keeping a close eye on burnoff.

What do you think?

Not a bad combo, I am always hesitant about running Edge or Mobil 1 Extended Performance the full 15K, you could also consider AMSOIL Signature Series that is good for up to 25K. Pennzoil Ultra is another good choice for longer OCI's. Perfect filter choice, though

I was thinking since the car sees so many highway miles and that 4cyl is easy on oil, I was thinking it should be able to do the 15,000. Plus I'm thinking it may burn off quite a bit this first time so it will have new oil over the whole coarse of the interval.

My 1996 RAV4 has been fed a constant diet of Shell Formula dino every 5000 miles with a Toyota brand filter every 10K. I'm up to 201,500 miles. I tried synthetic and it burned oil at about 1.5 qts per 10,000 miles. Regular oil burns at half that rate.

Check your dipstick at 5K intervals.

NAPA has Mobil 1 for $5/qt right now. I'd grab the AFE 0w20 for that car.

Or you could stick with Toyota's synthetic 0w20. Another excellent oil.

+1

except i believe Toyota wants 5,000 mile OCIs while under warranty. but other than that, i'd try a 8K then a 10K oci and see how that goes

how often does the dealer say you should bring it there? you can do it at home if you keep all the receipts

I think his warranty is somewhere over the rainbow - 30k annual miles on a 2008.
I too think those driving habits would benenfit from extended OCI and a very good syn.
