changing the oil in a CR-V tomorrow for my cousin, i do all the maintenance on my familys vehicles. last time i changed it, i put Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 and a Purolator P1 filter. she just called me today, said her oil life is at 40%, but that she put 9,000 miles on it since the last time i changed it. going to change it tomorrow, was thinking of using Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 and a Fram xtended Guard 7317 filter. would using synthetic oil and the fram XG filter be more suited to a 9,000 mile oci? does not sound good to run Pennzoil conventional for 9,000 miles. should the fram xg be good for that oci?

Sounds good. Pull auto transmission drain plug also and refill with three quarts.

x2. What are her driving conditions? Maybe she's doing mostly highway miles... that's a lot of miles on the K series @ only 40% oil life. Hmmmm. Double check the mileage.
I maintain a lot of cars and even though i use Trip B to record mileage for the oil, i still put a sticker on the windshield to keep track just in case someone erases it. (i used to write it down on the windshield with a marker).

I run 10k on Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 on the exact same engine and I do 4-5 changes a year. Seems to me that 9k @ 40% is a long run. I would ask her on the MM/runs.
I just changed the oil in our used 2008 CRV with EP 5W20. Ill change it again this fall with the same and do 6 month changes or OLM recommendations. I picked up six factory filters from H and A. My wife drives 60 miles round trip so ill be interested to see how many miles rack up next spring.
