I'd appreciate some input on this analysis. Thank you

Analysis by Wearcheck Labs
This is no indication of contamination in the component.
All component wear rates are normal
The condition of the oil is acceptable for the time in service.

It definitely sheared...I know that PC syn is up over 15 Cst out of the bottle. The motorbike is probably hard on the oil, but the oil doesn't seem to have high wear...14 for iron, 6.4 for aluminum...doesn't seem too high, but I am unfamiliar with averages for your type of equipment. Maybe try another run of the PC and see where you end up. Next time I would try one of PC's semi syn 15W40's (a tad higher shear protection, looking at their pdf's), and see if that improves your wear numbers.
The fuel number is a little frustrating, in that they denied you a more detailed explanation.
Try sticking with PC, though...their oils are nothing to sneeze at.

You know, its funny, a few years ago I tried to tell a buddy that he could use 15W40/5W40 in his bike as he was using expensive manufacturer recommended oil which he bought through them (of course they would tell him so)...he looked at me like I was pulling this out of nowhere, and pretty much told me I was wrong.
These days (and for quite some time) half the people in this forum are using diesel oil...

"I know that PC syn is up over 15 Cst out of the bottle"
You're right. It's 15.1.

"How is the oxidation, sulfation, nitration number measured by that lab?"
Unfortunatly, I have no idea. This is all new to me but I really appreciate your help.

I picked this particular PC oil because it meets JASO MA specs even though it's a diesel oil.

Still keep in mind the PC semi syns...their HTHS numbers are a whisker higher than their conventional and synthetic oils.

High Temperature High Shear. There is an ongoing thread in the PCMO section currently. Check it out.

Hi Magnatic -- sorry I didn't see your PM here on BITOG until just now.

Your used oil analysis looks pretty much like my first GL1800 used oil analysis did with Rotella ... the copper number was up around 20 (yours: 17) and that's just new engine wear. Same with the iron.

You're probably okay with this oil, just as you'd be okay with Rotella. You're up in Canada so you're probably a hearty soul who's willing to ride in colder temps, so I'd watch the cold-weather starts and if you do a lot of those you might want to consider a 5W-40 synthetic. But truth is, you'd probably be okay with a 10W-40 because I doubt you'll be doing any sub-20F riding. Well, if you do then I have to question your sanity.

The 2008 Wing specs a 10w30 oil, so I'm not concerned about the shearing. If you're comfortable with this oil, then stick with it. If you're nervous, go with Amsoil 10W-40 motorcycle and you can't go wrong. Or Rotella 5W-40 synthetic.
