This has been a great car for me. 130000 miles. Trans drain and fill every 30K miles since I bought it at 72k miles. Current fluid has about 6k miles. No leaks.
Starting to buck a little when shifting both up and down. A noticeable little thunk not a bang.
What could be the problem? I want to know if you would go for a rebuild or a new trans Or wait till it fails completely. Or stop worrying 😟

One thing I had to do to my newly aquired Volvo was fix a "flare shift" scenario. It was a badly worn top motor mount. If you have one accessible then give it a good wiggle to see if it's loose at all.
This is a very good suggestion! Years ago I had a 97 Crown Vic interceptor, it needed a trans rebuild legitimately but after I got it back I still felt like it shifted incredibly weird, bucking etc. The shop told me that needed motor mounts, confirmed by my own mechanic. It felt like a new car after that, buttery smooth shifts.
