2008 Camry Hybrid Oil Filter

I just completed my first oil change at 5000 miles on my 08 Camry Hybrid. In the process I discovered that the oil filter is mounted vertically with the threaded end up. I spent some additional money for a pure one filter thinking that the silicone anti-drainback valve is a good idea. However, I am wondering whether the anti-drainback valve is even needed for a vertically mounted filter?
It would seen to me that the filter will stay full on shut down without a valve. If so, I think I will save some money and install a filter with a nitrile valve in the future. Any thoughts?

It will stay full since it will not siphon out once the top of the filter is breached. What can/will occur, if there's too much of a "head" of cached oil above the filter mounting location, is that the media will be backflushed until that vacuum break is reached. This may be why it's there. OTOH, it may just fit other applications that require it.

I think I will use a good quality filter like Purolator Premium Plus the next time. Aside from the Silicone ADBV, the 2% increase in filtration that Pure One offers for twice the price doesn't seem worth it for 5000 mile OCI's.

Depends on how you think about it. 2% more dirt, or twice as much. I use PL14477 on my 2002 2AZFE.

Anybody know if Amsoil is coming out with a filter for this car? My parents just bought one and I would like to get an Amsoil filter if possible.
