2008 Caddie CTS Heavy Oil Usage

I'd use Shell Rotella 5w40 or Mobil 1 HM 10w40

Glad to hear you got an opportunity to work on your CTS this weekend. However I am curious why you chose not to replace the PCV valve with a new factory unit while you had everything apart?

The CTS 3.6L does not have a PCV Valve. It has an open ventilation system (for lack of a better term). Advice was to ensure there are no restrictions in the system so I tried solvents to loosen any clogs - time will tell. If I continue to experience high oil usage I will try something else.
