If she can't afford the service she needs to get rid of the car. She obviously can't afford it and she would save tons on insurance and gas with a different car that has less maintenance needs.

Sounds like a very uninformed purchase.
 
Yeah, the 31 MPG she can get with that car will be easily surpassed by many less expensive cars. Obviously she should have done more research. She should sell it now and think hard before she considers another car.

That isn't exclusive to the German world. The 5R55S/W transmissions from Ford are filled through the drain plug as well.
 
I think all the fear of German cars is comical.

Plenty of other makes have unsual service proceedures, but then again many are very typical across the board.

As for that tech that said they won't work on certain VWs well unless it is a diesel engine repair I wouldn't trust them for work on any car.
 
She has decided to take it to the dealership where she bought it in order to keep her warranty intact...good idea!
