2008 Accord V6. What is the consensus on ATF?

the oem fluid is good fluid dont get me wrong but needs to be changed out more often then others as i feel it degrades quickly and use to do them every 15k miles. my brother currently has a 2004 accord that i service and has been using MAXLIFE atf with smooth shifting for the over 150k miles with intervals every 30-50k with no issues. so to each their own

Use OEM dw1 honda fluid....IMO also might want to change the filter...it sits right on top a canister type...easy to do..

Unless there is an Aux filter up there, you won't be replacing the filter on the 4 shaft unit. It is buried underneath the converter.

I own an 07 3.0L since new. After dumping the Z1, seen nothing but MaxLife FSMV, with single d&f at ~25k mi intervals. Shifts as well as it did when new. As an fyi, Z1 was the original spec;d ATF, in my observation the most criticized ATF on this subforum. Was known to shear quickly. So, based on my experience, I recommend MaxLife. And you'll appreciate the cost saving with it too.

Here is where I read that 2008 was the year Honda turned its back to their older, deficient transmission designs.
The universally maligned Z-1 became DW-1.
DW-1 was the only juice I'd use on the neighbor's Accord.

I had a 07 with the 2.4 and it was located on the top..guess they changed it or the v6 uses and different tranny..
Yes 7th gen 3.0L cartridge type filter is under battery and holder, but replaceable with some effort. Otoh, 2.4L looks to be an inline filter, easily replaced. Topic 8th gen V6 looks different than 07, as noted perhaps not serviceable.

Me? Honda oem or amsoil.

I’m the one in a thousand guys who had an issue following using maxlife in a Honda, that reversed after draining out the maxlife. Maxlife has been a-ok in Toyota applications, though given the chance I’ll also use amsoil there too.

I’ve used amsoil in almost all ATF cases since then. My only issue with amsoil is their LV doesn’t work well at all in a ULV application even though they claim it does.
