I have an 06 ZX6R and I usually take it to the dealership and have the oil replaced every 3k. I would like to know what I should use if I do it myself? I have some Kawasaki oil in my gagage but don't know what the best stuff would be for my application. It geats a good share of relines and isn't treated too kindly lol, it is bone stock though.

How often should I change it?

What oil and what weight would be best?

Thanks!

I run Red Line in my Cobra, and it is good stuff.

I have no clue what oil weight my bike takes or what is in it now, I usually just take it to the dealership and have them do it, and pay them, and am done with it. I don't know why I don't do it myself since I do all the work on my cars myslef.

Thanks for the info though, I'll look into their oil.

I'm not sure the cost of expensive synthetic motorcycle oil is worth the cost.

I've been using Rotella Synthetic for quite a while on my 2001 GSXR600. So far I have 8 years, 30k miles, at least 30 track days and zero engine problems. That's not a scientific study and I have not done any UOA's, but I feel pretty good about the results.

10W40 is the weight, 20w50 is not a problem either in the your area.

I have used 10W40 mx4t, rotella 15W40, rotella 5W40, exxon superflo 20W50, and just recently Brad Penn 20W50. Uoa's are posted of the exxon and just posted the Brad penn.

I would use any hdea like rotella or chevron delo 400 or mobil delvac 1300 15W40. Im probably going to switch back to rotella in my zx9, although I do have 12 quarts of val synpower 20W50 that i want to use up.
