Hey all - Just purchased a used 2006 Mustang GT from a dealer and I am not sure of the oil change or other maintenance history of the vehicle. The oil is clean and full, but I know that the car was sitting on their lot of at least 9 months. I suspect that they serviced the vehicle after it first got on their lot, so that would make it 9 months old (with little to no miles on it). I would love to hear from you all regarding your recommendation to run the oil or dump it in favor of the Mobil 1 5w20 I have ready to go.

It is a sweet ride and you can't help but step on the gas!!!!!

Nice Car---I would change the oil immediately for peace of mind--why wonder when it was changed last? In fact if it were my car, since it is 4 years old I would flush the radiator and change the transmisssion fluid as well. Why not establish a good baseline and get the exact type of fluids you want in your car?

When I bought my hemi Charger, it had been on the dealer showroom floor for about 18 months. When I signed the papers, I told them to change the oil before I picked it up later that day and that I wanted either Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum in the crankcase. That afternoon, I arrived to find that they hadn't done anything. So I told the service manager if he still wanted me to buy the car that they'd credit me $40 to have the change done by myself at a place of my choosing. The manager walked out and took $40 out of his wallet and handed it to me. :) I hit Walmart and Napa on the way home and 30 minutes later it was running a Wix filter and Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20.

Dump it and put in what you want. That way you don't have to worry about it.

We bought a car recently and that's one of the first things I did when I got it home.

Congratulations, I love my 06 Mustang GT. I agree with changing the oil out. I use Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 in mine but Mobil 1 would be great also. Concur that you may be due for transmission service, fuel filter, coolant, etc. Mine has a Ford Racing Performance Products axle back, plus recently a JLT cold air and a custom dyno tune. The tune really perked it up.

Thanks for the comments. It has only 25,000 miles on it, so I am not sure about the transmissiony fluid. I always thought that was miles based not time, but I could be wrong about that... I am going to dump the oil and start with fresh Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft filter.

ditto. Known history makes any used car more valuable.

We just bought an 85 Mustang GT Convertible from the original owner. An Arizona/Florida car with a huge file folder containing every receipt for anything ever done to it.

Gotta find those BITOG members out there!

It's easy to be skeptical of how a $2.77 qt of oil could perform so well, but CP and Ford thoroughly tested it.
