2006 Ford Escape Transmission Fluid

I am planning to do a transmission fluid change and trying To decide what transmission fluid to use for my Ford escape 2006 xlt 4x4 with the cd4e Transmission. I have heard that you can use Mercon V with these transmission's.

Would this generic Mercon V fluid be ok?

or should I use a mercon/dexronIII like what it says in the manual and dipstick?

That trans takes Mercon V, not Mercon/DexIII. Make sure you get the Mercon V stuff... Or at least another branded fluid that clearly states that it meets/exceeds Mercon V specs/requirements.

Amazon sells a 5-quart jug of the Motorcraft Merc V stuff for about $32. Otherwise, I know Walmart sells a Mercon V fluid too.

Amsoil ATF, if you're paying $30/gallon+. Its good stuff.

Maxlife is a little thin for a Mercon V application, especially on something 12 years old, with a known problematic transmission. The slightly thicker Amsoil ATF would be a great option.

Oops the link I posted on the Mercon v I didn’t paste correctly. Is Motomaster Mercon v good to use?
