Hi guys, I have a delivery van that has 89000 miles on it. It is used strictly for deliveries every day 40 miles daily, all highway miles.

I would like to switch over to synthetics solely for the extended change intervals, but if a benefit in protection can be had would be a plus.

It has I believe a 4.6 l V-8.

Would a switch to synthetic be beneficial?
I was leaning towards Pennzoil Platinum, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

With the miles you are driving I would switch to Mobil 1 5w20 Extended Protection and do at least 13K OCIs.

Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1 Extended Performance should fit the bill. Make sure you're using a quality oil filter to go along with it, like Motorcraft or Mobil 1.

I'd NOT go for too much of an extended OCI until you get some miles on it. (known extended OCI miles)

Personally I'd suggest you go with something like Quaker State Synthetic (lower cost/excellent performance) and do a 7500 mile OCI and get a used oil analysis AFTER the second OCI.

Then with both 15k extended OCI miles on the van and some data from the used oil analysis you then can see if/what it is possible.

That combination of oil and filters has worked very well for friends that do extended OCIs in Chevy(Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Performance), Ford and Chrysler trucks and cars of all types. Several are going 13-15K and more with very long lived engine life. Of course that depends to some degree on the type of driving, etc. But on the average long OCIs are easy to do.

Thanks guys!
So annoyed, I just went to AutoZone for the Pennzoil platinum $23.99 speoial with a K&N Filter. The filters are not in stock, and they will not substitute a cheaper filter like the purolator pure 1.

Any advantage with Pennzoil Ultra over platinum?
