Lots and lots of those on the market, easy to find a better-priced one.

Exranger- Good catch, my mistake. He had a chevy cavalier. He told me that the cobalt replaced the cavalier and is essentially the same car. Not sure if that is true or not.

That is one good thing I can say, these cars can really take a beating! A co worker has an 07 that gets things like a oil change when she feels like it, and the cars still runs great at 145k.

These cars kick butt on highway driving, usually between 35-40mpg. City still nets me around 30.

Downside is the steering is pretty numb, and make sure those tires are nice and grippy. (My sumitomos keep this one well planted) I think the handling will get much better with the upgraded shocks and struts it will be due for.

Not the most thrilling car, but a pretty commuter or beater car...

According to the Car Fax, they were replaced two years ago. Do these cars have weak struts or something? It only had 50,000 miles on it when they were done?

Not that I'm aware of, but the reason I replaced mine was because one went bad not long after hitting a very bad pothole (it was severe enough to bend a wheel - fortunately it was fixable since it was one of my winter steel wheels and not the factory alloys).

I installed KYB Exel-G or whatever they're called now. Car rides nice!

I've never got the impression the Cobalt is a "bad" car. I mean for all the [censored] the Cavalier got, I knew a few guys that had them back in HS and college and were served well by them despite a lack of love from their owners.

IMO, there are better options out there for $9k though. Including lower mileage, newer Cobalts. A quick search of my area had 2010 LT with 34k on it for $10k at a dealership.

Update!! She bought a 2009 Toyota Matrix with 60k (I know, the millage is high) for $11,000.00. And she really likes it. : )

Cool!

No worries w/the mileage on the Matrix - they are very reliable, and will give miles more service.

Great choice! It's not even broken in at 60k miles.

Nice!

My mother has the 2008 Pontiac Vibe real basic version. Not a single issue with it and SUPER easy to maintain. Drain plug on the trans, super roomy under the hood. Simple rear drum brakes (no ABS on this one though!!)

It's noisy and rides real harsh though.. Good kids car!
