Wondering if anyone here has a 2005+ Tacoma and has replaced the engine's air filter with an aftermarket filter. I'm wondering if there are any aftermarket air filters that are just as good or better than the Toyota OEM filter. Most aftermarket filters are about 1/2 the cost.

I'm most concerned with the filter's fit/sealing and filtering performance. I do not want an oiled filter like a K&N, but a good dry paper filter.

I've typically used WIX or NAPA Gold air filters in the past on other vehicles, and they seemed pretty decent.

WIX/Napa gold net my car the lowest silicon levels through UOA.
Get the napa gold and check fitment when you install it. I ALSO put a thin bead of wheel bearing grease around mating surfaces to ensure a good seal.

You might want to take a look on Amazon and see if they have a Fram Air Hog, reusable air filter for your vehicle.

I've bought 3 of these for $8 and change for each, to get to the $25 threshold for Free Shipping. All I can say is I have nothing but good things to say about these filters. They are sturdy, well built and get the job done with plenty of Air Flow.

I have had excellent results with the AFE ProDryS reusable air filter. A UOA I had done while it was in showed only 6 PPM of silicon in a 5k OCI. They run about $40 on Amazon, about the cost of 2 throwaway filters. They can be vacummed or washed to clean.

Made real well. Built like a brick House.

OEM air filter is the best. I used Fram on my camry, and it didn't fit well. It got the job done..

In my opinion, OEM ( Denso) is the best. Thats what I am using. If you order from online, it is not expensive. It is only $13. Plus you can order other stuff like oil filter, ATF fluid, so on. Shipping cost is still $8-$10.

Let me know if you want a website.

I like the AEM Dryflow media but don't know if they make a drop in for your Toyota. I have one in an F150 and my SI levels were so low that people challenged my most recent 10K UOA ( you could look at my recent posts to see it if you were curious). I'm not claiming anything but it was a significant drop and the media is reputed to be 99.8 efficient. I'm in it for the long haul and an monitoring, what can I say. My AEM seems to seal well, but the Ford air box is a lot different than the Toy units I've seen, so I can't give you any feedback there. My experience is that you need to judge these things case by case. The same company can do a great job in one application and lousy in another. But... the AEM Dryflow media....I like.
