differential on 2005 Jeep G/C limited has had the pinion replaced/repaired twice at dealer. Is making noise again, any thoughts or experience

Pinion gear? Not being set up right, there is damage to the ring gear and it should have been replaced, you are running it in at a constant speed, bearings on pinion shaft are over torqued...

Thanks Boomer- I thought that they would have it right after 2 trips, I will use another dealer this time (have to thanks to Chrysler shutdown)

I would put money that they just tightened the pinion to spec, added 75W140 and sent you packing.

Ring and pinions are matched. If you change one, you change the other; always!

Good luck.

+1 there is no such thing as "repairing" a pinion & ring gear once misaligned. Also no oil that will fix it. It all has to do with the pinion preload or how far into the face of the ring gear teeth the pinion contacts with the face of it's gear teeth. Once worn in wrong (50 miles) no way to repair. What speed is it whining at?

I always understood that the Grand Cherokee has Dana 44 rear diffs. These diffs dont have crush sleeves like the dana 30's and dana 35's. I dont think within reason, the dana 44 can be over torqued.

If you can check it, I think the spec is 180 ft lbs.

If it's an AAM diff then better to take it to someone and have them see if they can get a set of richmond gears for it and build it correctly. Then follow the 500 mile 15-15 rule for breakin. (drive 15 min cool for 15 minutes and no towing) Then change the oil at 500-750 miles.
