Here is a 2005 Ford Taurus fuel filter with at least 60,000 miles and possibly 100,000 miles. I bought the car with 40,000 miles on it. The car existed on Canada’s west coast but came inland to Kelowna then SE BC. The outside of the filter was totally rusted. The filter mounts underneath the rear passenger side totally exposed to the elements. I cut it with a hacksaw, so the shiny particles are from the cut. The small amount of filter damage was from the final cut with the saw. Over all not much difference from an oil filter. Some weird fibrous stuff and a coating of fine rust like material or additives or both.
