The OC
Navigator has 28,739 miles on it. Oil was used for 10 months. Driving conditions are light, mostly around town with a longer trip (200) about once a month. Had a K@N Filter for half the mileage, 3200 miles, then switched to a AFE Pro Dry for the next 1600 miles before sample. Also had a 4 oz Maint.dose of auto RX and was running Techron Concentrate on tank of gas during sample.

The report indicated that everything is well within universal averages. The Silicon being high could be from the additives as well as the K&N air filter being used, (my thoughts). I hope that it will be lower using the AFE Pro Air Filter next sample.

Look at the type of use . Possibly the air filter "K@N"

Hard use city/10 months. Change it at 4k to get all that stuff out of there.

Looks pretty good. The low miles indicate severe service, so you might want to back off to every 6 months, you could probably use a good dino (to save a few bucks)or try a full synthetic(Mobil 1 or Penzoil Platinum) if money is no object just to see if there is any difference, but the MC would be fine as well. Did you just get this or have you owned it since new?

Bought it new. It's been very well takin care of. I was doing 4k OCI but expanded this one to see how the oil would hold up.

Those DOHC 5.4 are nice engines. :-)

Me personally would run amsoil 0w-30 SSO. When you got a nice vehicle like that why skimp IMHO.

What difference will the Amsoil make ? The engine in my wifes F250 costs 2x as much easily and I run Delo 400 and I have Delvac 1300 that after rebate paid $6.00 per gallon . Syn is not needed.

I don't see any issue here. Your Al and other stuff normally associated with lame air filtration just isn't out of whack. Your flash point is good (I would have gotten a TBN for 10 months - but

).

I don't see another two months being out of bounds.

Thank all. Because of low mileage, 6k per year, i didn't think a full syn. was a good investment. Gary, I don't understand your comment about the TBN in 10 months. What would this tell me? Also, with this sample, I put new oil in the engine.

What I was saying is that, without experience, I would have tested the TBN after a 10 month bout with any oil ..except maybe a Sunday driver with ..like...1200-3000 miles a year.

Given your numbers, if you had also had a TBN run, then you would be given the green light to a one year OCI.

But, again, given these numbers, I'd probably do one year anyway ..but I would surely get a TBN performed then.

Lakersguy, I own a 2003 Navigator with 52k on it currently. I had an oil analysis performed last year when it had 46k, the oil was Motorcraft 5w-20 with 3,300 miles on it. Results looked very similar to yours, the Iron value was 10.

Since that time I have been running Amsoil 0w20 in it, so far I have been very impressed. 6k into the Amsoil change and the engine still hasn't consumed any oil. By the time I hit the one year mark the oil should have 10k on it, I will send it in and post the analysis.

How is the city mileage on your '04?

Battyice, Thanks for the feedback. Because of the low milage per year on my 04, I'm think i'm going to stay with the MC and do 6 month OCI no matter what the mileage is. Highway mileage is 18, around town is 9-11. Mine has never burned any oil, so far. Be sure to post your oil analysis in the future, I'd like to see them.
