Here is the report from my trans. Is it advisable to have a mechanic drop the pan and just replace 4 quarts or do an entire flush? My vehicle currently has 61000 miles on it and the trans has never been serviced by the previous owner.

900 ppm wear, low viscosity, insolubles...... too bad no TAN number.

This tranny needs a pan drop, filter change, top off, and THEN a complete flush.

Wear too high for 60k. Possible ABUSE!

Good time to upgrade to DexVI or full synth DexIII.

It is going in on Monday for a pan drop, filter change, and fluids replaced. My thought is that the new 4 quarts or so will do some cleaning that the new filter will catch. Then after a few miles, I will do a full flush. This way the filter will hopefully catch what the new fluid digs up and I can then flush safely. I am very leery of those flush services.

Well, it is finally back and I am glad that I just did a drop. The mechanic said that he didn't find any metal chunks, but said the pan was grey and messy at the bottom. Not sure what that means, but it is hoped that I did the right thing here.
