New customer of mine that this engine has been butchered by other mechanics for the last couple of years. Came to me as an oil in the coolant(oil cooler) and a no start/hard start cold (which ended up being an aftermarket oil filter problem) but this engine has much bigger problems. Oil looked horrible, definitely looked like it had coolant in it, and visible metal filter so that is what prompted a sample. I have never seen a 6.0 oil cooler put coolant in the oil since working on them from 2007, it’s almost always front cover cavitation or on rare case and internal failure. EGR coolers can do this if ruptures but this truck is deleted and have never seen an oil cooler on these leech copper. 300 miles and 6 months on this oil. Truck is rotted out, so he’s selling it as is, not worth building an engine for unless he was going to Do a full cab swap with it. Probably $30K between the engine and body work that it needs.

Only thing I see that doesn’t make sense is the tbn at 21.6

Ouch, that's rough! Especially for just 115k on it.
Sure is. I feel bad for the guy. He’s spent thousands of dollars trying to get other people to fix this cold no start. Probably $8,000 in the last year plus. Injectors, high pressure pump, IPR, stand pipes/dummy plugs, glow plugs and harnesses, full wiring harness, HFCM, multiple ficms, ECM , cam and crank sensors, batteries and more. Ended up being the wix oil filter that is too short and was not depressing the anti drain back valve in the filter housing. It also allowed unfiltered oil to circulate through the engine.

I've never heard anything good about these engines with WIX filters. I had to buy an OEM filter lid since previous owner was using the aftermarket WIX that comes with a different style cap. If it's not getting oil flow it won't fire the injectors properly. After all that it would pain me to see someone get rid of it but I get it. Never going to get their money back so keeping it makes more sense but you did mention rust so that doesn't sound like a usable truck outside of just running around town (no hauling or towing).

Right. If it body wasn’t so bad it may be worth it but still a lot of money to put into a 22 year old truck. I told him I’d be happy to do everything including a cab swap but I totally get it doesn’t make a whole lot of financial sense. This is a landscaping truck with a dump body. He had new tires and the new dump body put on a year ago which is the other kicker.

I think he already has a potential buyer as is
