My 2003 Silverado will act like its in neutral when coming to a red light or when you come to a fast stop. Sometimes it feels like its in a higher gear (2nd) and it has to quickly downshift to 1st. I did a pan drop about 5000-7000 miles ago. I was thinking about doing a full fluid exchange like I did on the suburban. Through the cooler lines. What do yall think? Anyone else have this issue? BTW it shifts fine and 99% of the time drives like new

I've got a 99 silverado with a 5.3. When I let off the gas pedal the transmission finds the lowest gear in relation to speed and drops into it for the best acceleration. I've got 260000 on it and no problems whatsoever.
I had the great Canadian oil change do a pan drop and fluid change and almost instantly it behaved weird for about 1000kms but it eventually went back to normal. Maybe a fluid change will help you,but pay attention after the fluid swap.

I can tell a difference on my 06 Silverado after every 30,000 transmission fluid service, ive had a pan drop and a fluid exchange through the lines.. i 100% notice a difference after its done.

As for yours, I dunno..

Mine does that every once in awhile, or sometimes takes a minute to get into gear, also once in awhile when its really cold it will bang the first shift of the day a bit.

I first noticed it at 60kish, now I'm almost at 120k and it still does it. Fluid is fine and has been changed since than.

I'm not going to touch it again, just run it till it blows and replace it with a GM rebuilt transmission or buy a new truck. Most of the guys that work for me do nothing to these transmissions or OCD them with changes. Doesn't seem to affect service life, they either blow young or last to almost 200k.

YMMV
