2003 Cadillac Seville SLS

Bought the car two months ago in Phoenix at the auction with 91600 miles, one previous owner, and unknown fluids used. My question is should I keep doing the drain and fill with Redline D4 ATF or use D6? Reading that using D6 would help increase MPG.

I'd favor longevity over mpg and use what's recommended.

I don't think that Dexron VI was available in 2003....I'm almost certain the OM calls for Dexron III.
Having said that I'd stick with D4.

Use whatever gives the best shift. I'd take a hit on mpg for perfectly timed, smooth shifts rather than get an extra few miles per tank along with poor shift quality.

So you're the one who got that out from underneath me.. assuming we're talking about the same car. You bought it from Copart, correct? Kind of a metallic beige?

I actually won the bid on that the week previous, with a $375 bid, but the seller wouldn't accept it.. wanted a higher bid, so he declined to accept my bid. Found out later that he had a $400 minimum bid.

Missed out on it the next time it went back up on the block. Was kicking myself for not biting @ $400...

How is the car, BTW?

Use the D6. Remember, Dexron VI is backwards-compatible with the old stuff

Dex VI debuted as factory fill in 2006.
That Redline fill is gonna cost as much as the car LOL.
I'd use some Valvoline MaxLife or if the dough is really burning a hole in your pocket, some stuff meeting Allison TES-295.

This is true, the Manual and Redline website says Dexron III. Just wondering because a few on the Cadillac forum say to use D6.

It shifts great and smooth on D4, about to do my 2nd drain and fill, to get the old out. In another 3000 miles I will do the 3rd drain and fill.

No didn't get it at Copart, but auctionnation. Anyways that week I didnt see anything at Copart.

And if your transmission doesn't have a drain plug, get the Dorman pan that has one

Ah, my mistake. It was so close in details to the one I was going for, and you're in Phoenix, it just seemed a given.

That said, the one you bought looks quite clean. Nice win there.
