Oil changed up to 11k miles with Valvoline 5w30 and OEM or WIX filter. The every 5k-5500 miles with Mobil 1 5w30 and either oversized Toyota or Mobil 1 filter.

This sample was with oversized Toyota filter. First sample with oversized Mobil 1 filter.
Driving - Every third say 50 miles one way trip to work. Other two days occassional short (

QUESTIONS:
1 - What is making the insolubles go up?
2 - Why is the magnesium so high?
3 - Why is calcium so high?
4 - Lead, copper, iron and tin are down from last sample. Do you think it is the engine just breaking in still? Or should I go to dealer?
5- The silicon is high and I still have original OEM paper filter. I have no leaks that I can find. Going to change filter soon. ALSO, I have had Blackstone do analysis on FIVE vehicles in the past three years. ON EACH and EVERY one of them it has indicated high silicon. Vehicles - 2000 Ford Taurus, 2001 Ford F-150, 1994 Toyota truck, 1995 Toyota Corolla, and 2002 Toyota Tacoma. It is just funny to me that silicon is ALWAYS high.

Thanks for the help.

Do you use an Armorall-like product under the hood, or tire treatment stuff on something under there?

I'm not an expert ,this is a new engine break in .The metals are dropping. Do another anaylsis at the next oil change and let us know. Mag.and calcium are oil additives.

remember, analysis is TREND analysis and it is engine specific. I have had high silicon on all my vehicles as well if you interpret anyhing over 10 ppm as high. Personally, I shoot for silicon under 30 ppm at a 7500 OCI. My 92 Camry V6 has always had high silicon, anywhere from 10-40 ppm. Now has 156,000 miles. (All that dirt should have worn that engine out by now wouldn't you think). The lab was never concerned over 30 ppm so I decided that I would not be either. Most visitors to this board feel that anything over 10 is way out of line and something must be wrong. (9.9 times out of 10 it is normal for that engine and/or oil combination). My experience indicates to me that it can take 20,000-30,000 miles for an engine to break in and the silicon numbers to come down.

Magnesium/calcium are oil additives, not wear metals, so this is simply a difference in additive chemsitry. The engine is still breaking in ...my 1995 Tacoma continued to show reduced wear for the first 50k miles.

All toyota engines show high silicon(e) - it from the engine sealant materials they use and is NOT dirt.

You have more fuel and moisture in this sample - I expect that is the reason for the insolubles going up.

1. I think the mobil 1 filter is doing a better job.
2. Normal for mobil 1
3. Normal for mobil 1
4. Yes engine is still braking in.
5. Normal for breaking in and not a problem.
Could be the area you drive in and need a
better air filter. I recommend NAPA GOLD.
6. Nice used oil analysis for sure! I would only be
concerned with the lead and it is comming down.

Thanks guys!!

I got email from Terry and he is concerned with lead and copper. But, it is going down, so we'll see how the next UOA looks.

I am running my own little "test" with same oil and OCI but with 1) MOBIL 1 filter, 2) Toyota filter, 3) WIX filter.

We'll see how it looks in 5k miles.

Again...thanks.
