2002 Toy Tacoma V6 Manual 4WD Fluid Capacities

Hello,

I'm about to change to synth gear oil and wanted to verify the fluid capacities for a 2002 Toy Tacoma V6 Manual 4WD. Thanks in advance.

Manual Trans 2.3QT
Transfer Case 1.2QT
Front Diff 1.2QT
Rear Diff 3.1QT

You just fill until fluid begins to run out of the fill hole. WHen fluid quites running out you put the plug back in!

I mainly want the data so I know how many quarts to buy!

Your owners manual has the capacitys in the back. It is a good place to start. The listed capacitys are never right on the money. It is usualy a good idea to get 1-2 quarts more then what you need just to pla it safe! If you get 9 quarts you will be fine. I would get ten just to play it safe. When you do not allow for mistakes then that is when you end up short!

I do not own the same year as you but have changed the fluid on alot of Toy. 4X4's.

Are you mail ordering or buying localy? If local better to have to much then not enough!

I just bought a case/12 of Royal Purple MaxGear 75W90 here at a Napa for the front/rear diffs. Got a good case discount. I'm ordering RedLine MT-90 for the manual trans and transfer case.

The capacities in the Toyota owners manual are pretty close iirc, it might even take a little less since the capacities listed are from empty, and it's impossible to get 100% of the old lube drained. I did my 4Runner that has the same driveline as your Taco a couple of years ago. Seems like I bought an extra quart "just to make sure" and ended up returning it.

The fill plug on the front diff requires an allen wrench, 10mm I think. Make sure you have one and can get all the other filler plugs out too before you drain anything...
