Interestingly, the Australian WRX's still run the 2.0Ltr motor (195kw for the Sti), whilst the new Forester has the 2.5ltr motor.

Does this mean that you may be one of the first to actually attempt an extended drain interval(as in 7500+)?

Keep in mind ...you're stepping into uncharted territory. Next you'll be hearing things like Big Foot sightings (Bermuda Triangle, etc.) in areas where people even dare approach a factory recommended drain interval

Good report! Please find the edge of the envelope.

The probs only occured where 93 octane wasnt available. I guess the CA gas was worse than subaru planned for. They fixed this problem by reflashing the ecus.

I know there were people having detonation problems even with 93 octane, but if an ecu reflash solved the problem, it doesn't really matter.

I dont think Im going to go past 7-8K. At that point the oil has earned its keep and I need to take a look under the car anyway. You never know though, we'll see after the next UOA

Yeah it is a big debate. If I bought an STI and used 93 and it was pinging I would be PISSED. Also I think people have dyno'd their cars before and after the reflash and lost power. Im glad I can run down to 89 without probs in my plain old wrx.

The other thing people are pissed off about is some literature said the stis were going to come with forged pistons, and it turns out they probably have cast, which some say are stronger. I would be upset about that too.

How much is the performance reduced when you use 89 octane in your WRX? I've never used anything but 93 in mine.
The new Legacy GT looks like a very nice car and interests me even more than the STI in some ways. I'll be looking forward to the road tests when that model arrives.

I'll second that sentiment! I'm also very interested in the new Legacy GT, and am considering the aforementioned as the replacement for my WRX.

Total Mileage: 40k

I never really got on it when I put the 89 in, but there was no noticable difference in normal driving.

Santo Fontana,
I'd love to see a UOA from the Series 3000 5w30 also. I do a bit of track in the summer and I'm contemplating these two Amsoil's in my 8000rpm RSX.

Yeah Im excited to compare these results with the 3000 i have in there now. Only problem is its been REALLY cold here, so its not going to be a fair comparison.

I have about 3000 miles on the s3000 and the only difference Ive noticed is it got darker faster than the ASL.

Compared to the royal purple, m1, and syntec I have run my engine is a little quieter/smoother, and it is DEFINITELY quieter on cold starts. I feel pretty good starting the car in the freezing cold with amsoil in it.

Also - be sure that I am giving this oil a hard time, I did a top speed run today

Got it up to about 135. Once I shift into 5th at about 125 the acceration slows waaay down. I was still gaining speed at 135 but I couldnt stand to press it much further especially with the cold *** weather.
