Flushing out the coolant on my 2002 Silverado, 5.3L.

Who makes a decent coolant/antifreeze for our 5.3L Silverados?

Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Just about any of them. I racked up almost 600k in both my old trucks since new and have used just the universal stuff or the cheapest dexcool. As long as it's changed sooner than specified universal coolants won't do wrong.

Been running the Prestone 50/50 Dexcool in my 2005 / 6.0 , since 2011 without any coolant related issues.

Dexcool is a fine extended life OAT coolant. Pretty cheap at Walmart for prestone dexcool concentrate. About $7 per gallon once mixed with some distilled water.

Prestone universal is a dexclone but neon green/fluorescent yellow in color. Also good.

Peak 10x is also good.

This time around I used dexcool as it was the cheapest I could find coolant for.

I've been using generic green supertech for the past several years and avoided dexcool. At the time I didnt like the idea of juggling different coolant types, but since then have been a bit more mature about it and now juggling ELC, Asian, and generic green. Dexcool at least in my myopic head has been unnecessary.

Based on responses, I think Dexcool is the way to go for now.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I am late to the party but I second the Dexcool recommendations. My 18 yr old trucl has run on Dexcool its entire life and there has not been a single coolant related issue yet. Original rad, water pump and heater core.
