the 3 series sometimes has water intrusion problems but the E38/E39 are mobile aquariums. every single one i’ve ever touched has had failing vapor barrier adhesive and/or sunroof drains.
the foam underneath the carpet can hold gallons of water and take out the terminal box under the passenger seat
