I guess it needs some diag for the misfire. At that mileage, anything is fair game.

Aside from that, I assume you have budgeted for the usual cooling system overhaul, front suspension overhaul and a full engine reseal?

They eat coils packs and spark plugs. Switch coils and see.
Unless some mechanical issue like gasket etc. that is first I would check.

i parted one out with 290k, auto lost reverse.

as long as you don’t overheat it hard the aluminum 6 will keep going and going. drinks oil but it’ll keep on going

I think so. The whole car is covered in condensation. That is how my vehicle looked in Alabama every morning

could be both.

the 3 series sometimes has water intrusion problems but the E38/E39 are mobile aquariums. every single one i’ve ever touched has had failing vapor barrier adhesive and/or sunroof drains.

the foam underneath the carpet can hold gallons of water and take out the terminal box under the passenger seat

Had to back out - and back out hard. I was told it had a ton of miles and a #5 misfire. What it actually had:

Wrecked interior
Dead radio
Failed ABS pump
Bent wheels
Had to be manually shifted into first
Burned a quart of oil per tank of gas

I'm a little sore with him for wasting my time - but it is what it is.
