Mercedes might use BMW engines.

I remember some saying Neue Klasse "It is concept. Ain’t gonna see any streets." Just sayin'...
Maybe see one soon? Hope so.

Yeah, I remember too. I said it.
It was a concept. And no, it ain't gonna see the light of the day.
But then, BMW actually changes some stuff when they go to a new model, unlike some that sell the same refrigerator with an oversized iPad for the last 10 years.

You're kidding right? The Neue Klasse will debut soon.

It seems market realities and Geopolitics are making Mercedes to turn to BMW for engines.
I really don’t know what to make out of this. BMW in the last three decades shared its engines with numerous manufacturers, most notably GM (Opel) and Toyota (while Supra is known in the US as BMW product, in Europe Toyota used BMW diesels far longer). But this seems just wrong. I get that MB has issues with new engines being made in China which are affected by tariffs, but why making it there in the first place?
That rivalry that spun some of the best vehicles in the world like M3 and AMG is coming not to simple bean counting. Yes, BMW can take bragging rights, but I don’t like this development. And what that tells about state that Mercedes is in? To turn to BMW?
Now I have seen everything!

Economic and regulatory uncertainty which will change on the whims.

For a period time in the early 2000's BMW used a France assembled GM automatic transmission in some of the lower powered models. Losing reverse was the most common issue with the unit at the time.
Yup, the reverse drum would crack or fracture. Many threads on this at E46Fanactics.

I dont understand this either.
MB has a fantastic 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo engine.
Years ago were in the entry level Infiniti Q50s for a while and I almost bought one since I had them in rentals many times when I was in Europe.

B46 are better engines, by a good margin. Mercedes has very good V8 engines, but 4cyl and 6cyl are BMW turf, especially 6cyl.

I've owned six BMWs with six cylinder motors (2 M10, 1 S38, 1 M52, 1 M54 and 1 N55). I've also driven severa BMWs powered by the B58. I was pleased with the performance of all of them.
While I don't have any experience with Mercedes 4 cylinders, I've been extremely happy with the M276 biturbo V6 in my W205 C43; performance, fuel economy and reliability have been outstanding. If I had to replace the C43 I would probably go with a W213 E53, which is fitted with the M256 biturbo inline 6.
