I'm getting a multiple random cylinder misfire and 2 EGR codes on my 2001 Camry. It's not misfiring all the time but every now and then. When I reset the code it comes back on 2 or 3 days later and only when the engine is cold. I already changed my spark plugs and spark plug wires so that's not the problem. The engine is accelerating slower in the hot weather. The performance problem is worse when driving with the A/C on or after driving for 30 minutes or longer. After I stop driving and the engine sits for a little while it gains it's power back. Is that a bad EGR valve or something else like an ignition coil or fuel filter?

Per Rock Auto, a 2001 Camry with the 2.2 litre 4 has two coils - one for cylinders 1 and 4, the other for cylinders 2 and 3.

If one coil were on the way out, I would expect misfires on cylinders 1 and 4 (P0301and P0304) or cylinders 2 and 3 (P0302 and P0303).

It's possible both coils are failing, but the general misfire code you're seeing (P0300) seems to indicate a problem common to all four cylinders.

P0401 and P0402 are EGR codes. A blocked EGR valve will cause an engine to run terribly.

On Mazda 4-bangers of that era, I was able to remove the EGR valve, take it apart, and clean out the carbon that was jamming the valve open.

That would be the first thing I'd try.

Could it be the PCV valve?

A problem with the EGR as indicated by the codes set can cause a lean miss affecting all cylinders. A check of your long term fuel trims would verify that. I would expect the trims to be highly on the positive side.. > than +8.
