seviced my truck last week. i changed the rear differential fluid, a/t fluid, and the engine oil. installed the proper amsoil product for each of these assemblies. the local napa store now carries amsoil engine oil. anyway, i promptly filled up the gas tank, went on a little trip, filled it up again to check my gas mileage. my truck has a 3.55 axle, is a 2wd, has a 318 engine and i got 17.5 m.p.g. had been getting about 16 or a little less. i was real happy with that.

I think you would have gotten just as good gas mileage before you changed the differential and A/T fluid. My last service in my Durango (01) has factory synthetic differential in it put their by the dealership as standard. I don't know about the A/T transmission fluid though but that's an area you always should service on time as transmissions go through allot. I too have the 318 engine and I've been able to achieve a fantastic 21.2 MPG from mine. Since you have a pickup your pretty close so my advice is too do what every can be done to achieve aero dynamic slipperiness.

Going to Amsoil synthetic fluids for the drivetrain, in addition to the crankcase, is the best option for improved mpg.

I have done several vehicles syn oil from front to back with syn oil .I changed everything with oil to syn oil I have never able to get a noticable increase ,you must have done something right.
