Apparently, there's a possible issue with this transmission popping out of 2nd and 5th gear, due to corrosion at the end of the shift cable. Could someone please describe to me exactly where the shift cable attaches to the transmission? The car is far away, and I want my friend to try a simple fix before taking it to a garage for possible unnecessary repairs.

thanks

My Hyundai has a turnbuckle on each of the two cables to adjust them in or out. I have no idea what the parameters for free play are, I'd be careful about advising your friend to "tighten" or "loosen" the free play, though. Like leaning on the stick while the car is in gear, an adjustment that duplicates the effect could fry the sychros, or so I understand from the Hyundai manual. I doubt Hondas are terribly different.
