since changing to synthetic at 74,000 mis. the temp needle that was at 1/2 w/ the regular oil is now about 1/4 " lower , plus takes longer to reach that point after starting . Is the automatic choke a sensor activated by coolant temp ? If so , will the longer heating of coolant with the synthethic make the choke stay on longer affecting gas use ( especially in colder weather ) ? Thanks

2000 Prizm (essentially a rebatched CA assembled Corolla) shall be full EFI anyways so what "choke" are you talking about?
You shall consider checking your thermostat and replace it with factory unit if deemed defective.
synthetic motor oil doesn't dissipate oil any better than proper grade dino-blend motor oil to the point where it would significantly bring your water temperature down a notch.

I mean dissipate heat, not oil (carpal tunnel again)
the drop in temperature gage occurred almost instantly after changing from regular 5w30 to Mobil 1 5w30 and taking it for a good run .The thermostat is working fine as well , have dealt w/ that issue in the past w/ previous cars owned . Have talked to technicians from VALVOLINE , PENNZOIL , and MOBIL about drop and told by all 3 have talked to other consumers making that claim w/ change to a full synthethic as well. Very sure there is a choke , will talk to mechanic Saturday, or Monday.Thanks for input .
unless yours is carburetted (highly unlikely for the last run of Corolla/Prizm with carb was back in the early 90s, up until around 1992 in Canada), there is NO bloody WAY you have a choke!

If you insist that you have a choke (that's directly from your mech's mouth), I would insist you to go seek out another honest mech.
Lastly, I have serviced enough vehicles in my mech life to tell you that there is no way on-earth you can drop your temperature significantly by simply switching to Full Synthetic oil. 1/3 of your engine's energy is transferred to the water as a form of heat and if you see/detect such significant temperature differences, you are dealing with water/cooling related issues.
And if your mech insists otherwise, then go find yourself another mech if I were you.
p.s. I do not trust any aftermarket thermostat esp. if it has been replaced with non factory units before (non OE Toyotas).
