OK, I have a 49 state EPA 2000 civic HX w/ 5 speed trans. I accidently caught the engine on fire and the only thing I was able to get to fix it was a used motor with wire harness, only thing it does not have is exhaust manifold and distributor.
After comparing the 2 motors side by side i noticed the new engine does not have a IVAC system. it also has a different EGR with a vacuum line and components. Since I have now moved to California from Louisiana I believe i have a CA engine sitting in the garage floor?
can anyone tell me if this is true and will I need a new ECU or anything else to complete my engine swap?
Thanks!

Sounds like the beginnings of a mess. Is the basic longblock the same? Can you swap things off the original engine onto the new one?

If you can't I'd go looking for another engine like your original vs trying to make the wrong engine work.

If I remember correctly, the engine block (short and long) are the same, and the only difference is the CAT and exhaust manifold.

There are many Civic engines in the same family, 1.5 1.6 D series with / without VTEC, and the 1.6 B series DOHC with Vtec (SI). You might have gotten the wrong engine block because of different trim, but they still fit the engine bay with different ECU programming. Only internal displacement difference, external mounting, manifold, transmission should bolt together as long as the series is the same family (all B series or all D series).

Does HX have the same cam or is it an economy cam?

Can you post pictures on a honda forum? There are lots of freaks who know these motors (and "JDM", LOL) inside and out.
