2000 corolla with a P1349 VVT System Malfunction CEL. Car has 149k. Searching online code P1349 could be a number of possible solutions, from sludge on the OCV and filter to parts replacement. Wondering what other people did to resolve this. Some history - My son just started driving Saturday. His grandmother gave him the corolla 6 months ago so its been sitting. On the way back from inspection the CEL came on. Went off a few times, now steady on. There is a shell service sticker which is not clear how long the OCI was, or if the mileage written was the start or the end of the OCI. The oil on the stick is perfect, full, and the miles are 200 more than the miles on sticker.

Be prepared to clean the oil control valve filter or change the selenoid, however, you can try do the engine flush and change engine oil first to see if that rectify the issue.

The situation on the sons car got worse today. He came home and the oil light was on. Checked the oil and it was on full, looked like it was right out of the bottle on the stick. Drained it, put in M1 High Mileage 5w-30 with an XG4967 filter. After about 15 minutes oil light disappeared. P1349 VVT System Malfunction CEL still on. Wait and see what the oil can do.
