2000 Accord stero keep dying....

Hey everybody ,

My 2000 Accord SE has killed two steros in past month. Two diffrent models . A sony and an Alpine.


The fueses are NOT blown ( each stero had its own ) the main fuse is also not blown. I cannot narrow this down. All the wires are soldered , electrical taped, and then shrinked tubed. So there should be no shorting within the hireness.

I'd check the grounds and the voltage coming to the radio's B+/ACC feed. Also, check the speaker wiring as well.

Already done so , connected a recorder to measure the voltage . after 20 minutes , the voltages were pretty steady changing only when the engine change kicked in.

You need to use a digital volt-ohm meter to check all speaker wires for continuity to ground. Grounded speaker wires will mute the output of a modern car stereo. It is not likely the power circuits are the problem but you can check the amperage of the power wires as well as the voltage to be sure. If the ground was bad the radio would either not power up at all or it would shut off and on rapidly. That is also called "motorboating". Both the Sony and Alpine units are probably still OK. This sounds like either a speaker wire shorted to ground or a bad speaker causing a direct short. Either condition will mute the radio's outputs to avoid internal damage to the radio.
