The idea of two oil changes per filter, though, isn't that new. I've seen it on agricultural equipment decades ago. And yes, if it were a chore, I'd consider two OCs per FC. Then again, I might try to relocate the filter.

I'm sure it has been around for a while. I think Yamaha started recommending it with their snowmobiles in 06? It might even be before that with some of their earlier 4 stroke motorcycles?

One thing I noticed in the Fram vid above I posted, which has me confused, is why reinstall the drain plug before removing the filter? In my experiences, I usually get some extra flow/oil out of the drain hole once I loosen the filter?

It's likely just vid to give the basics on how to do an oil change, but I find it odd that they make it seem like it matters?

A few months ago, someone posted on BitOG a scan of a late-1970s Chevrolet Nova owner's manual which recommended two oil changes per filter. My 1962 Chevy manual does not.

irv, all my snowmobiles have been two-strokes, and dirt bikes as a kid. I don't remember what the four stroke bike said off hand. As for plug back before filter? I agree with you, but they probably want to make sure someone doesn't forget because they're going onto a "different job."

CR94, I might have some old manuals hanging around; might have to satisfy some curiosity one day. These days, vehicles don't say much about oil changes at all, unfortunately.

I am gonna start leaving the oil filter on for 2 "changes", on my Civic Si... or about 7000-8000 miles.

This car has the 1.5T with fuel dilution issues, so the oil level actually goes up and smells like fuel... can't leave it in for too long.

So my routine is... fill to the 3/4 mark on the dipstick, new oversized premium guard filter. When the OLM gets to 50-60% or the oil goes past the full line.. drain half the oil, refill again with fresh 5w30 to the 3/4 mark, then keep driving until it gets to 10-20% or the oil goes past the full line again. Then change oil + filter.

Good move, that's close to my routine except I syphon off less (1.5qt.) then refil to just below full keeping that up as needed to 9k on 0/40 oil....Ultra filter 18-20k

I hope to never own a vehicle that dilutes the oil with fuel so bad that it increases my oil capacity above the full mark.

If your fuel dilution is that bad why are you only draining out half the oil, why not try to get out as much as possible?

Man.. that's a lot of trouble..

I would follow OEM specification. We've seen a lot of filter tears, so I wouldn't want to be extending filter life based on an assumption that everything is fine.
