I've seen filters with tears or holes in them, some with wavy media. IMO these filters were faulty. I've never seen a filter that looked like it plugged up unless it was in an engine with some catastrophic failure. What makes anyone think a filter cannot go 10 to 15,000 miles? Where is the evidence they can't do this? Fram recommends 5,000 miles for some of their filters but jiffy lube recommends I change oil every 3,000mi and I don't listen to that nonsense either.
I'm old school, filters have been good for 15,000 since the 70's.
