I have my concerns about it too. Approaching it from the angle of fully trusting it no matter what, which I don't see here from anyone using it is the problem. Tesla Reddit is concerning though.
I have issue with cell phone usage while driving. Automated systems allow certain users to think they can do that and all sorts of things when they should be driving their car.

The car will force disconnect all driving aids if it detects your eyes are not on the road. Even if you don't have any driver assistance aids on, it will nag you to pay attention to the road if you look down at your phone. I have tried it. The alerts are very annoying.

Remember, Teslas use your cell phone as the key. There is no need to hold a cell phone while driving; the car and cell phone are tightly integrated.
The problem you are referring to are with the driver, not the car. If a Tesla suspects you are not paying attention, it will scold you and even stop assisted driving after 4 (or 5?) warnings. Us owners call it, "the nag".
In my case I keep my reasons more quiet, but definitely not knee jerk reaction about never buying one. It’s really none of anyone’s business what someone else wants to buy.
