At AZ, they have a mail in rebate special for up to 2 free bottles of 12oz Chev Techron.

I went fot it, bought two, and will send in rebate form in the morning.

I had about 3/4 tank of gas already, so I poured one bottle in my '96 Crown Vic.

My other two vehicles have less than 30k miles on them with recent new fuel filters, and feel no need for the Techron to go in them.

My CVic pings some. Will the Techron help with this? I have never used it before, but have seen it mentioned before on this site and at crownvic.net.

What is so special about this stuff?

Is it bette than SeaFoam in the gas tank?

Is it good enough to buy 2 or 4 more bottles and have the rebate send to another address?

Thanks.

Sea Foam is a mineral oil type of solvent.
Techron or Regane are a different technology, and are much better.
Correct my spelling/memory, but they have polyether amines.

Techron seems to be about the most widely accepted fuel injector cleaner around here. I've used it many times, and will continue to do so. Thanks for the tip about the rebates at AZ. Hopefully my area has them, too. If so, I'll stock up.

One note about Techron. There are 2 "different" types. The full-fledged Techron is the strong stuff (in a good way). They also have the "Pro-Gard", which is a weaker concoction. Just check the name on the bottle. I believe the Techron comes in two sizes for 12 and 20 gallon tanks. According to their site, a little overtreat will not harm anything. The 12 oz is probably for a 12 gallon tank.

I haven't used Sea Foam in the tank. But I do use it through my intake system (through a vacuum line). I notice a definite improvement in idle/driveability (after the smoke dies down)! This gets done about every 30,000 miles.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Techron may just help your pinging, if it cleans out carbon that is causing it, then it will fix it. If its not caused by carbon than it wont.

For Free id go back and get 2 more bottles if i could. Its good stuff

I remember reading on early Techron bottles that you should not use Techron more than once per oil change. They didn't explain why, but it could be surmised that since all engines exhibit "blow-by" to some extent, that Techron somehow affects the motor oil chemistry.

I, too, like Techron quite a bit. In my mind, it and Regane are effective in getting that last bit of combustion chamber deposits out of the engine. They do a nice job on fuel injectors, too.

Yes, I bought the Techron in the black bottle. No mention of the ProGuard.

My tank holds 19 gallons, and pop'd in a bottle at about 3/4 tank.

When should I do my next treatment?

The bottle suggests every 3000 miles.

Thanks guys, I may buy 2 or 4 more and find and alternate address to have my $$$ sent to.

For sure, don't waste your time with the leser Chevron Techron additives [fuel injector cleaner].
Go for the most expensive [strongest] valve and combustion chamber cleaner.
A steady diet of Fuel Power will work well, for a variety of reasons.
