ASL + FP/LC combo, some dabs of #132 (not sure why)
B/S lab. 3rd consecutive ASL fill.
Now back on RL5W-20

edit:car has OilGuard bypass; filter not changed for 50K+ miles.

Silicon and wear both improved with the shorter oil run. At 151,000 miles this is the best that we've seen your Echo look in some time. The 8,000 mile oil run worked well for you and we think you could easily use this as your standard oil change interval, though going longer shouldn't be a problem either. The sample was free of harmful contaminants. The TBN read 2.0 so you still had some active additive left. Everything looks good in this sample. If a problem exists it didn't show up in any of our tests.

Looks great SG. Do you keep track of your mpg? Just curious bc you are now back to 5w20.

So starting with this very low wear UOA, let's see what RL does next! Or I could just say - Why the heck did you change?

Seriously - NICE.

No; Mid 40's is my tank to tank calculation; summer weather.

How long will you draw out the next OCI?

8-9K is my comfort limit; Car was run to about 55K with M1, since then basically RL and various 'soils, TSO, ACD, ASL; I probably could hit 13K with [TS]SO as here. I'd be curious how the engine would react to an extra long run (18K)

I had to get the RL in there to clean up the mess Amsoil made....8)

Actually I am out of 30 weights except for 6qts of RL. I have 1.5 cases of RL5W-20 purchased years ago from the AAP closeout and 3 gals of ASM; I am pretty convinced I will be sticking to 20 weights from this point forward. Itching to get some ASM into the !echo! and try that out.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I'm not impressed - yes wear metals are great, but the TBN is shot on a top-tier oil after ONLY 8k miles. Amsoil says this stuff should go 15k miles in 'severe service' - here it made it just over half, with maybe another 1k of use in it. Very similar to the situation a few months back with the Ford Lightening that only got 6k miles out of ASL.

Amsoil is slipping, and 'cheapening out' their main oils.....

Suit on!

I don't know about flaming.

As far as TBN goes, 2 is a bit low but tapers off quite slowly on the Blackstone scale. Maybe we should find out more why the TBN is down so much before we throw rocks at the oil. Maybe the additives???

"Amsoil is slipping, and 'cheapening out' their main oils....."

Where is the proof of this?

Pablo,

I like Amsoil and what they stand for, and i believe they make good products. Maybe a bit harsh with the last statement.

Even taking into account the fact that TBN drops off slower at the lower end of the scale, with it a 2, there is not much [censored] to go - it won't make 15k, Amsoil says it should. I don't see anything in the report that says there is a mechanical problem causing this depletion of the oil, so maybe the oil just isn't as tough as Amsoil says?

Again, it IS a good product, from a good company, but maybe they are giving it a bit TOO much credit?

Pablo,

True, I hadn't thought about all the stuff added to the oil - that makes it hard to evaluate the run...if I had paid attention to that, I probably wouldn't have said what I did.

ASL or ATM are oils I'd like to try...someday!

As a note, I don't see many other's UOAs for this engine go much beyond 8 or 9K miles regardless of oil. I don't think this is a long drain capable car. (12K+) John Hilmer ran GC and it was shot @ 8K also. I have run RL and 8-10K the oil is finished. So, 8K-10K is what I expect out of ANY oil I run regardless of mfg.

WRT oil additives: if you have never squeezed 8oz of LC into the crankcase @ 5K miles, you don't know what you are missing.

I would like to put a bypass on my Paseo which uses the same oil filter as the the one that the Echo uses. My main question is where are supplying the oil from for the bypass. Are you taking it from the factory pressure switch take-off, filter sandwich adapter, or other orfice? Thanks.

I too am in agreement with this statement. Some of these engines tear up an oil within 8 to 12K. This is why UOA's are so valuable when determining the OCI. 10K is a nice round number!
