Hmm interesting. Does that mean that these updates are pretty much required for the transmission to have a long life? AFAIK the transmission is original and not rebuilt.

Did you rebuild your partner's trans b/c it was wearing out or was there a catastrophic failure from fluid loss or something?

I didn't do my partners transmission as I was in the hospital at the time and my dad had a broken leg. So we had it done at a local shop my dad knows... He is the one that told me about the updates. They drill out something and it creates more oil flow which cools and lubricates the transmission better and prevent future problems.

If yours is still lasting it could be because most of the miles were highway miles which kept it cool enough not to cause excess wear. My partner drives his escort mainly in the city in stop/go traffic.
