I've had this brochure for over 10 years now and thought it time to share...

Eight pages including front and back cover.

Includes the "frying pan" test!

I wonder what the "competitive oil" was. I think it's safe to say that the "competitive oil" was a cheap API SG or SH rated dino oil. Advertisements like that have always turned me off. Either name your competition, or don't brag on yourself.

Agree that the testing is always subjective, and they don't give details of what it was tested against, but that is a neat brochure, and in good shape - a keeper for sure!

The frying pan test is what made me a convert. But... showing worn cams rocker arms can contain so many variables. 2 different cars coming off the same assembly line are subject to material inconsistencies. Late 80's Ford Escorts were famous for soft cam lobes, but not all of them suffered from it. I replaced noisy lifters in my 1978 Chevy Monza "iron duke" and the cam and lifter surfaces were as shiny and smooth as the new ones, but I had sludge in the pan and under the valve cover from 8 years and 67,000 of Penzoil.

This is before Exxon took them over. Some say the quality has never been the same.

I like the advertisement personally. More effective than the 4-ball wear test.

It's sad to read the very bottom of the last pic:

Mobil Oil Corporation
Fairfax, VA

There is no doubt MOC maintained very high standards for their premium product, Mobil1. I don't think Exxon is a "bad" company, but I sometimes wish they would drop the Mobil name if they indeed are not keeping the same high standards.
