I had the camshaft position sensor wiring fail right at the sensor on ours like that too. We were only getting a very intermittent camshaft position fail code at start up. The car must have been right out of warranty (though sometimes they are worth the trouble), so I ordered a genuine GM sensor because I was tired of clearing the error. After removing the PS pump and cleaning around it, I could finally see the deteriorated insulation. Even had to cut away some RTV that was squeezed out from the intake manifold to change the sensor. I wonder now if that may be a common place to fail, but it is not as if the wiring is ever flexed there. Oddly enough, it does share ground and power connections with the crankshaft position sensor as I had mentioned in an earlier post.
