The BMW OLM for your year e36 is very close to 9-10k and I've been using it for years with German Castrol 0-30 (add about 2qt during the OCI) and oil analysis are great. You could easily do the same. My 98 M3 has 170k. The OLM is there for a reason. And it really works well. Just keep using the Oil you've been using.
