Hey guys, my cousin and I are going to be changing the ATF in his 1994 Chevy Silverado K1500. Not exactly sure on which transmission it is, I just know its a 4 speed auto. Has a 5.7L if that makes a difference. I know that it was originally spec'd for Dex III, but would using Dex VI be better? What brand should I use? Also, does anyone know how many quarts would be needed to do a pan drop for the fluid change? Thanks!

Dex6 is the only spec supported by GM. I used it in my previous Regal and liked it. Currently I'm using Maxlife in this Regal and its OK... I think Dex6 is still better.

So if we choose Maxlife, that would be the Dex/Merc (Dexron III) version, correct? Will that work as well as a Dexron 6?

All MaxLife is the same. I run it in my 1990 K1500. No problems here. My truck seems to love it. I'd also consider going to Napa or another box store and adding a bottle or two of LubeGard Red.

Also look into the "corvette servo" for the 700R4/ 4L60. Firms up shifts without being obnoxious. I'll be putting one into my firebird; the part is only $15 shipped.

I did a little research on this and for $12.41 on Amazon we might throw one on. Is instillation easy?

Use Castrol Dexron VI. It's on sale at AAP for $4 this month.

Most GM transmissions don't have a drain plug, but you can get an aftermarket pan that has one.
