This may be old news for you guys ..but I just ran across this on the SOPUS site.
Air Filter Housing Modifications On 1994 Through 1997 Ford F-Series Trucks
Utilizing Pennzoil® PZA-201 Air Filters
We have been notified that Ford Motor Company is providing a no-charge Service Program, Number
97B16, to owners of certain 1994 through 1997 F-Series trucks equipped with 7.3L DIT diesel
engines. These engines utilize the Pennzoil® PZA-201 air filter.
Ford has determined that in severe dust and heavy duty applications, the air cleaner can become
plugged at a higher frequency rate than in normal operating conditions. If the filter is not checked
and serviced frequently, the engine will produce enough vacuum to pull the walls of the filter inward,
disrupting the sealing surface of the filter, and reducing the effectiveness of the filter. This condition
may allow unfiltered air to enter the engine.
Through February 28, 1999 or 100,000 miles of service (whichever occurs first), Ford dealers will
replace the air cleaner retainers and in some cases, will also replace the air cleaner cover assembly.
If this condition is noticed when servicing the air filter on 1994 through 1997 F-Series truck equipped
with the 7.3L DIT diesel engine, refer the customer to their Ford dealer for this service.
