I had one of them. Don't remember the year. I bought it used around 1992. The power steering pump spindle kept tearing up the inside of the power steering pump pulley. It was very slow but other than that it ran very well.
I aways liked them, even bought one of their pickups from Joe. One of my neighbors had a vintage Trooper. Ran great but the tin worm worked it over good.
That's a really nice find, especially the M/T. I had both a 1996 (until the teenage son totaled it) and a 2001 Trooper. The latter had the larger engine. If I recall, I used to feed it Shell 5w30 and Nippon oil filters. Nice vintage 4WD for the beach. Good luck with yours.
I actually saw a 1st gen Trooper the other day ago - but it was nowhere as nice as yours.
Isuzu was weird back then - Japanese built but they also hit up GM’s parts bin thanks to that corporate affiliation. I think the V6 option was the same 2.8L used in the S-10 or Chevy Celebrity/Corsica/Beretta of that time before their in-house 3.2L V6?
Nice find. Really amazing condition, it's even hard to find 2nd gens in that shape. Troopers are very capable and neat vehicles. The parts availability and getting it worked on has always scared me away, but I'm sure you can handle it.
